Welcome to the Homepage of Michigan artist Sylvia Pixley!
Sylvia Pixley creates original wood engravings which are relief prints.
A reversed design is carved with burins, (engraving tools) into end grain maple wood; oil based ink is applied to the surface with a brayer; paper is laid on top; and the ink is transferred from the block to the paper by running through a simple roller proof press. Some original prints are then hand painted with water colors.
Sylvia does all the art work, cuts the museum quality mats, and inserts the art into premade frames. Her husband, Allen, is the transportation director, booth engineer, sales assistant, and administrator in charge of scheduling and lodging.
